| Description |
Long ago, in a remote village surrounded by mist-covered forests, there was an ancient lake known as Lake Arkhavel. The villagers believed the lake was cursed. Its water was always still… unnaturally still. Even during violent storms, its surface remained like a dark mirror.
Centuries ago, there lived a girl named Mirelda, the daughter of the village chief. She was known for her extraordinary beauty, but also for her arrogance. Many men asked for her hand in marriage, yet she rejected them all with cruel mockery.
One night, a poor young man named Varun came to propose. He brought a simple gift: a white swan feather he claimed to have found near the sacred lake.
Mirelda laughed at him.
“If you want me to accept you, become a swan that swims in that lake. Prove you are worthy.”
The villagers fell silent, for they all knew no one dared approach the lake after sunset.
But Varun went anyway.
He walked toward the lake as night fell. Thick mist rolled across the water, and strange sounds echoed from its surface. The next morning, Varun never returned. The only thing left behind was a single black swan feather floating near the shore.
From that day forward, Mirelda began suffering terrible nightmares. She saw Varun standing in the middle of the lake, his eyes hollow and lifeless. Every night, the sound of wings beating against her window haunted her sleep.
On the night of a full moon, Mirelda walked toward the lake as if possessed. The villagers tried to stop her, but her body felt cold… like a corpse.
When she reached the water’s edge, the mist parted. From the center of the lake emerged a giant black swan. Its feathers dripped like they were soaked in shadow. Its beak was cracked, and from within came whispers that sounded like many voices speaking at once.
The swan stared directly at Mirelda.
And the villagers swore they heard her scream:
“I don’t want to become like you…”
The lake water began to boil. Mirelda’s body slowly sank beneath the surface without making a single ripple.
Since that night, the number of black swans in the lake increased by one.
